PCC is a short form of PowerControl Center. As the name suggests it is the center from where power is distributed to the entire premises. Depending on the size and the load of the facility the power distribution is branched out to various locations. Each load center has one feeder coming from the PCC Panel. The rating of the switchgear is selected based on the total load at each load center with provision for future expansions. Generally, for any load above 1000 A, Air Circuit Breakers are considered. If there are more than one incoming feeders, appropriate bus couplers are provided and in case there is provision of back up DG, AMF Panels are also considered for fast switchover from grid to captive in case of power failure.
The construction of the PCC Panelis of a rigid design with appropriate copper or aluminium busbars. Meters can be provided with each feeder to monitor the current, voltage and energy parameters. Multifunctional meter can be provided with communication port for study and analyze energy parameter, power quality etc. Breakers can be provided with micro processor release to provide protection for the feeder.The panel is constructed taking into consideration the ease of connection of incoming and outgoing feeders. The panels are of
compartmentalised design and with approved paint finish.
